Botanical Dyeing on Silk: eco printing and dyeing with plants

In this workshop you will learn to naturally dye silk using the ecoprint method. We will be using found iron as a mordant as well as flowers and leaves that were wildcrafted. No natural dye experience necessary. You will go away with 1- 29″x 29″ scarf and the knowledge and instruction to recreate this magic at home. There will also be an indigo dye vat in this class, so bring  any cotton or natural fibre yarn or fabric that you would like to transform.

Caitlin ffrench is a textile artist working in East Vancouver (unceded Coast Salish Territories) She paints with handmade wildcrafted botanical inks, is a knitwear designer, and a natural dyer. The Slow Clothing Movement is important in her work- She tries to wildcraft as much as she can for the natural dyes that she uses in her practice and she wants to inspire others to be able to learn about wildcrafting sustainably in their own landbase. Her studio practice focuses on sculptural humanlike forms that are made of hair, wax, blood, and ash.  She first started making these forms in 2011 out of handspun silk, and is now making them from human hair. They are telling of Caitlin’s thoughts around fertility and the idea of anatomy of female born people. This work became more revealing to her when she had a hysterectomy in October of 2014.

Natalie Ferrari-Morton / East Van Jam / eastvanjam.com
Filling your larder: preserving, fermenting, canning and more

Learn the science and safety behind how canning works and how to stock your larder for the winter months to truly eat local year round. Techniques include traditional canning method, fermentation basics, dehydrating and prepping for freezing from the Queen of East Van Jam!

Owner and maker of East Van Jam and canner-extraordinaire, Natalie Ferrari-Morton is a foodie at heart. Motivated by indulgent, yet healthy food, East Van Jam was born from a desire to share a low-sugar alternative to the status quo while celebrating the beautiful produce BC has to offer. Never known for taking herself too seriously, every character representing each flavour has a little silly make-believe back-story adding extra depth to the jam experience – and in turn, feeds her need for whimsy and humor.

A graduate of the school of life, Natalie has been hard at work since the age of 17 picking up skills and tricks to make her way boldly through life’s challenges and joys. With retail management experience, a pilot’s licence, project management work in the corporate sector, parenting two strapping boys, earning the unequivocal title of ‘Expert Canner’ and self-taught business person, Natalie has a well-rounded wealth of knowledge on how to build a grass-roots business from the ground up.
When not changing the world through great-tasting food, Natalie can be found gardening with her husband, baking pies or chasing her boys around with the aim of embarrassing them somehow.

To Sweeten: The History and Deployment of Sweetening Spells
The Witch from TheWitchery.Ca will be sharing some of her knowledge about sweetening spells: Not only used for love, these spells can be tailored to aid and improve many types of relationships. Whether it be a lover, friendship, business interaction or a situation in your workplace. This workshop includes a lecture and hands on project that you will be able to take home with you.
Edmonton’s own little Internet occult shop that brings European Traditional Witchcraft and Southern-style conjure magick to the North. It is run by a practicing Witch with a touch of hoodoo influences. Mesmerized by herbs, religious iconography, and the Dead, The Witch is a lover of low magick who enjoys helping people find the perfect incense, sachet powder or spell kit to draw the intent and energy they are seeking. Her oils, herbal preparations, and incenses are made the old-fashioned way, with genuine roots, herbs, and minerals. Featured on Season 9 of CBC’s Dragons Den, the Witch attempted to impress the dragons and silence Michael Wekerle with her infamous oils. Sadly most of her pitch ended up on the cutting room floor. You can view her brief cameo here: www.cbc.ca/dragonsden/pitches/the-witchery

April Gee/ Warrior Apothecary / facebook.com/warriorapothecary
Traditional Fire Cupping, Raindrop therapy (RDT)

Ancient Folk Remedies and Therapies with a modern Pagan twist, Warrior Apothecary is a Vegan holistic company.

April Gee holds a diploma in Remedial Massage Therapy, Aromatherapy, and is beginning her Master Herbalist and Hoodoo training in 2017. Additional training include Fire Cupping and Ear Candling, trained by a Traditional Chinese Doctor colleague and mentor in 2007 as well as Raindrop Therapy, trained by a Reflexologist, Craniosacral and Reiki Master in 2008.

She’s been fascinated with the health and Magickal benefits found in nature since childhood. Working with botanicals, essential oils, and alternative treatments to assist with both mental, physical, and spiritual wellness, creating beauty product alternatives, odd and unique Perfumery, and continuing education with alternative modalities to assist in healing have become a life long passion.

With sustainability, health, and uniqueness being top priorities at Warrior Apothecary, you will be sure to discover their products, ingredients, and treatments to be quite healing, magickal, unlike any others, and somewhat otherworldly.

Traditional Fire Cupping:

This ancient form of alternative medicine is quick, painless, and effective. Numerous glass cups are heated with fire creating a suction, placed on the patients skin for several minutes then removed. This is considered a “reverse deep tissue massage” where the the muscles are pulled upward and away from the body, giving the same results without the aggression and pain.
This treatment has been used for centuries to treat muscle stiffness, severe arthritis, anxiety and depression, menstrual cramps, digestive issues, migraines and headaches. It helps manage acute and chronic pain, opens the chest and lungs, restores comfort and mobility, improves circulation, detoxifying, boosts the immune system, and stimulates energy flow for better overall health.

Treatment sessions are approximately 30 mins Regular fee: $70. The price for Lost + Found Campers $50 per session

Raindrop Therapy (RDT):

Assisting the body in self healing, this aromatherapy treatment consists of the therapist dropping specific organic essential oils along the spine, like raindrops, with featherlike strokes applied to the back. Working with the autonomic nervous system, this unique, effective, non invasive treatment has lasting effects. Benefits of RDT include reducing muscle tension, strengthening the immune system, improving circulation, pain reduction, toxin flushing, improved mood and mental clarity, reduced inflammation, and rejuvenated energy. Align, balance, and heal with this unique treatment and feel the effects extending beyond the physical!
Oils used in this treatment will be available for purchase at the camp market for at home use.

Treatment sessions are approximately 30mins

Regular fee: $80, Lost + Found Campers pay $50
